Last year one of the hottest tickets was for Mike van Graan’s Pay Back the Curry, directed by Rob van Vuuren and starring Daniel Mpilo Richards. The same team is back with more in the same vein, this time under the title, State Fracture.
It is a very clever script making use of multiple sketches by Mike van Graan, exquisitely performed, including some delightful musical items, by Daniel Mpilo Richard and seamlessly slick under the direction of Rob van Vuuren. Lighting was by Stephanie Papini.
The one hour long performance seems shorter because one is laughing at the witty take on sad political shenanigans. We meet Dean from the Saxonwold Shebeen and he takes us through our paces. This is great comedy, biting satire and a fun evening out at the theatre.
The production won an Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival, and one can see why. Do not miss this if one enjoys satire.
State Fracture is on at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square in Sandton until 29 July 2017.
