Today’s Grand Cru – Boschendal Chenin Blanc 2016

Cru is “a vineyard or group of vineyards, especially one of recognized quality”. It is a French wine term which is traditionally translated as “growth”, as it was originally the past participle of the verb “croitre”.

I use the term to head up my wine of the day series.

Staying with Chenin Blancs, this is a particularly fine one.  If there is any over, use it for tomorrow’s fondue, for 11 April is National Fondue Day in America (not Switzerland) and a cheese fondue is traditionally made with wine or beer to thin the cheese.

The food pairing today with this delightful chenin blanc is an autumnal chicken breast grilled and served with seasonal vegetables.
