This is an empathetic look at a tragedy set in the “past” of 2016. It is now eight years later (2024) and the Blue Light Brigade drivers on the fateful evening are being questioned.
The work is cleverly devised by the cast in collaboration with writer Zano Mthembu and beautifully executed by Zintle Tyson Ngubeni and Luthando Jamda (?). Directed by Simona Mazza, it is sensitive and poignant, but it makes its point.
Blue is part of the 969 Festival at Wits Theatre, curated by Gita Pather. The festival runs until 24 July 2016.
