Sweetie Darling

Bongani Mbatha is a much admired Durban based actor.  This work was created by the very talented Clinton Marius especially for him.

The piece does not work for me despite the clever script and excellent acting, simply because I never buy that Bongani Mbatha is a 27 year old single man.  He has the physicality of an older executive, a parliamentarian, a tribal elder.  He simply doesn’t come across as a shy  (young) working class man who joins a church choir for no other reason than his sweetie darling is in the choir.

Wrong vehicle for actor and script.  Pity because both are superb on their own.

Thanks for the comment, Moira, the age thing has been under discussion previously, and we were considering making the character older. Your valid point has given me the kick to do this!
