The Huntsman, Winter’s War

The Huntsman:  Winter’s War is a prequel to the movie Snow White and the Huntsman directed by Cedric Nicolas Troyan.  Warning, this is NOT a children’s movie.

The movie has been panned by critics in both the USA and in the UK.  I disagree with them.  The movie is based on Grimm- and Anderson-like characters and it appealed to my inner child.

The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Nick Frost and Sam Claflin (all from the Snow White movie) and they are joined by Emily Blunt, Rob Brydon and Jessica Chastain.

The plot makes about as much sense as any fairytale does. It is the story of the triumph of love, of the victory of good over evil.  Everyone lives happily ever after.

I enjoyed the movie, but it is not intellectual stuff.  Maybe good for a date night?  Certainly good for a sibling bonding session. It is not necessary to have seen Snow White and the Huntsman in order to enjoy The Huntsman:  Winter’s War.
