Under the Christmas Tree

A unisex “safe” Christmas gift for that unexpected guest, or for the office Christmas gift lottery, or simply for the busy executive who can’t find any time to read, is Wisdom from Africa, a collection of proverbs, compiled by Dianne Stewart.  This charming book is for the Christmas Present Game.

A book for the little ones (pre-school, first year of big school) would be the My South African ABC. Discover South Africa from Aardvark to Zululand.   How wonderful it is to have books for children that are relevant to South Africans now.  It seems that just about everything we had as children actually related to another culture.  Things are much better today.

My South African ABC

A set of twin girls aged 6 is double trouble and I have here Karatekas #1 Friends & Betrayal, a new South African series by Anzil Kulsen illustrated by Alinde Lombaard, together with Lulu Bell and the Birthday Unicorn by Belinda Murrell, illustrated by Serena Geddes, an Australian series which might have to be read to them at the moment because the heroine is actually eight, although her younger sister is having the birthday party and she is only six.

Harper Lee’s novel, Go Set a Watchman, is a sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird, although it was apparently written first.  I read it in one sitting.  It is a Christmas gift for my sister who loves To Kill a Mockingbird.
