Ok, I admit it. I am an adrenaline junkie. But only when it comes to Emergencies and Disasters. I am, after all, a long time member of St John (Ambulance) Brigade.
So I thrive on programmes like Travel Channel’s Durban Beach Rescue, a reality TV show set right here in South Africa and filmed in Durban over December 2014/January 2015.
The 10 episode series covers dedicated teams of South African lifeguards on high alert as they watch over thousands of holidaymakers on Durban’s beaches. With unpredictable conditions, the lifeguards have zero tolerance for anyone who tries to break the rules. The series premiered last night on Travel Channel with a Double-bill on Saturday, 4 July.
The series looks at a wide variety of happenings, including the drowning of one woman over the time in which the series was filmed. The good news is that no children were abandoned this New Year, only to be collected days later when their parents sober up.
Members of first aid organisations and emergency services will miss this series at their own peril!
