Herman Charles Bosman is one of South Africa’s most revered authors, and most loved are his stories told by Oom Schalk Lourens.
It has been said that Herman Charles Bosman wrote Afrikaans in English. He certainly captured the spirit of the Afrikaner brilliantly. Now Paul Luckhoff, directed by Frans Swart, brings these stories to life on stage for the first time in Afrikaans.
The pathos of Die Musiekmaker, the hopeful flirtatiousness of Willem Prinsloo se Perskemampoer, the tenderness of Oom Schalk Lourens’ last meeting with the leopard, the heartwarming Die Jubabessie and the amusing Die Bekkersdal Marathon will charm both those who know the stories well and those for whom this is a first introduction to these beloved stories which have become folklore.
These Mampoerstories are on at the Mardi Gras theatre, Carnival City, Brakpan and they really are wonderfully told. An excellent introduction to theatre for new audiences and a treat for those who attend regularly, so something for the whole family.
Don’t miss this one.
