Two fire fighters lose lives in service of their fellow Jozi citizens

I opened the e-mail.  The expression is “My blood ran cold” as I read the official notice:

“The office of the MMC: Public Safety in the City of Johannesburg expresses deepest condolences to the families of the two 2 brave fire fighters who paid the ultimate price while giving maximum service in protecting the property and lives of the fellow citizens. Their heroic acts will never go unnoticed.

The MMC would also like to applaud and thank all the brave men and women who came to the rescue of their fallen comrades during last night’s fire incident as they demonstrated their diligence and commitment to keeping the City safe.”

My heart goes out to the families, friends and colleagues of these two unnamed fire fighters.  May the souls of the departed rest in peace and rise in glory.  May we, the ordinary citizens of the City of Gold, reflect a moment on the work done by the Emergency Services, Police and other people who selflessly take on dangerous jobs to keep this World Class African City functioning.

The department of Public Safety is mobilising its resources accordingly to ensure that the fallen heroes are honoured with the respect and dignity which they have so earned through their commitment and dedication.
