Ten celebrities started out at the beginning of the season. Only two were left last night for the finale, songbird Patricia Lewis and funny man Chris Forrest.
The media joined the contestants, judges, sponsors and representatives from the various charities selected by the ten celebrities to watch the finale which was filmed in the MasterChef kitchen on the Nederburg wine estate in Paarl to see this nail-biting episode.
The final two prepared a fish dish, with Patricia doing tuna and Chris doing trout. Luckily it was a taste test, for Chris battled more than a little with the filleting of his trout which he served with an avocado sorbet, earning himself massive points with the judges for the round – his fellow contestants.
Patricia prepared the saddle of lamb with accompaniments for the pressure test marginally better than Chris Forrest did, but she couldn’t overcome the massive advantage Chris gained in the first round. They landed up with just a two point difference to make Chris Forrest famous in food circles.
Of course ultimately it is the charities that are the real winners, with the earliest knock-out charity receiving R10 000 while Chris Forrest’s cause, Villa of Hope, would get R185 000 plus a Volkswagen Jetta. That is an impressive prize for any NGO.
From next week M-Net will feature a new local series entitled My Story on Sundays at 18:00.
