Crazy in Love, hot ticket at The Market Theatre

One of the most exciting things about attending the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown is hearing the buzz about “hot” shows.  They soon sell out and one can’t get tickets anymore.  That’s what happened to a little show, Crazy in Love.  I was delighted to learn that this 2013 Standard Bank Ovation Award winning work would be coming to Johannesburg.

It is now on at The Market Theatre, Newtown, presented by A Conspiracy of Clowns with Andrew Buckland as Leon, a father who is abandoned, literally holding the baby, at the altar.  His daughter, Ginny, played by Liezl de Kock, grows up and the father/daughter pair have spent their lives looking for the missing woman.  Andrew Buckland is an established actor, one with a reputation for excellence, particularly in physical theatre. Young Liezl de Kock is rapidly gaining a similar reputation for excellence.

Rob Murray is the director and lighting designer and Jayne Batzofin is the designer, completing a creative team which has excelled at making excellent theatre.  Crazy in Love won the Best International Production at the 2014 Amsterdam Fringe Festival.  A work honoured at home and abroad.  This work is not suitable for children under sixteen years of age.

Crazy in Love only runs until 12 April 2015.  Tickets from R9o to R180.  Booking at Computicket.
