Annie, the remake

Annie, the original 1982 movie, was a somewhat twee and dated as a musical and was so even thirty years ago – family values and the wonderful song “Tomorrow” notwithstanding.

I went along to see Annie (2015) expecting more of the same with politically correct colouring to add to the mix.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Quvenzhané Wallis (Annie) is endearing, Cameron Diaz (Miss Hannigan) redeems herself and Jamie Foxx (Mr Stacks) is positively wonderful.

Director, Will Gluck, has made this updated storyline for Annie into a workable movie for the 21st century.  Most remakes fall short of the original, this one is much better than the original.  Tomorrow and the other musical items have been rearranged and they work well.

Its gets a 6/10 plus an extra 2 as a family values film, so 8/10 for family viewing.
