Foxwood’s Spring Festival

Foxwood is an innovative conference and entertainment venue situated in Killarney/Houghton in Johannesburg.  Its owners, Pieter de Vos and Jan Groenewald, are always seeking ways to make it completely relevant to the Johannesburg public. Their latest efforts have seen it host the inaugural Foxwood Spring Festival.

They have a Garden of Fame and this year Patricia de Lille, the Cape Town Mayor, and a crusader for justice together with Dr John Kani, an arts activist in the theatre, songstress Carike Keuzenkamp and beloved actor Tobie Cronjé were honoured when they joined Bryan Habana, heart surgeon Dr Susan Vosloo and Helen Zille and well-known artists, Sandra Prinsloo, Abigail Kubeka, Lerina Erasmus, Abigail Kumalo, Judy Page, Dozi, Steve Hofmeyr, Nataniël, Annie Basson, Elize Cawood, Wilson Dunster, Bob Courtney, Peter Lotis, Milla Louw, Charlene Truter, Al Debbo, Rina Hugo, André Schwartz, Casper de Vries, Marius Weyers, Susan Vosloo, Shaleen Surtie Richards, Vinette Ebrahim, Freek Robinson, Johan Stemmet, Mimi Coertse, Brumilda van Rensburg, Neels Hansen, Emma Renzi, Dot Serfontein, Riaan Cruywagen, Marida Swanepoel and Daniël Krige in this beautiful and tranquil garden.

Another major feature of the Foxwood Spring Festival was the launch of the new Foxwood Wine range created by top winemaker Matthew Krone (no longer associated with Krone sparkling wines), a wine maker with a family history stretching back over three centuries of winemaking.  The two new wines are a Chenin Blanc (2012) and a Shiraz (2011).  Actor and chef Lochner de Kock and French chef Pascale Gagiano presented their culinary skills which went with the food and wine pairings at a series of dinners which made up part of the festival.

The quaint theatre which used to be the stables saw Matt Stern sings Elvis Presley in Hound Dog. Text: Deon Opperman; Jannie du Toit: Doep is nie dood nie (Life & songs of Koos du Plessis); Richard van der Westhuizen: a programme in song; Paul Spence and Cat Simone:  Francoise Hardy & Brel, So Alive, So Well! ; 15:30: Anna Davel: Sings Smooth Jazz; Jan Groenewald: Daar was ‘n tyd –  Charity performance for the MES Impilo Trauma Support Services in Hillbrow.
