Gearing up for the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz

The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival has moved to the Sandton Convention Centre with its expected crowd of more than 30 000 patrons.  It takes place from 25 to 27 September 2014.  This world class international festival brings in about R600 million annually.  That’s a lot of money.  But even if one has no money there are plenty of reasons to know about, and to attend this festival.

At Sandton City’s Checkers Forecourt there will be free performances on Heritage Day, 24 September 2014 at 10:15, 11:15 and 14:10 where one can hear Thandokazi, the Bushy Obazana Jazz Band, Shoe Lace and Gurulogic.

Buskers will be performing in Nelson Mandela Square from noon until 16h00 from September 24 to 27 and there will be performances at various restaurants in the Sandton area.  Another freebie will be Jazz meets Lounge at Tsogo Sun’s Sandton Sun Hotel on Sunday 21 and Sunday 28 September from 14:30 till late.

At the Maslow Hotel on Sunday 21 and Sunday 28 September there will be a Jazz Sunday Gourmet Braai with a live performance by the Johannesburg Youth Band at the Lacuna Bistro.  Cost is R250 per person and includes a glass of bubbly.  Then every evening from Monday 22 September to Friday 26 September from 18:00 to 21:00 the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra will be doing Jazz Evenings.

A little something for everyone.
