I am not sure how I feel about The Wangai, a piece of family theatre based on The Lorax by Dr Seuss. Some of it seemed very sophisticated, and some of it very child friendly. The children all looked comfortable with it and didn’t wiggle. That is always a good sign.
The premise is that there is “Wangai” (pronounced One Guy) – inspired by Wangari Maathai of Kenya – who addresses ecological issues, particularly deforestation.
Directed by Andrew Buckland, the actors tended to shout a bit and diction wasn’t always clear.
It was, however, innovative, entertaining, energetic, upbeat and loads of fun.
The performance I saw was on 7 July 2014 at Memory Hall, St Andrews Preparatory School at 10:00.
