For a date night with a difference, you should head off to Maboneng’s, The Bioscope, where you can see iNumber Number, a wonderful South African movie written and directed by Donovan Marsh, screened outdoors. I have already previewed this movie and can confirm that it is truly worth seeing. I will be seeing it for a second time and I definitely wouldn’t do that if it were indifferent or awful. The synopis of iNumber Number says: “When honest undercover cop Chili Ngcobo, and his by-the-book partner, Sello ‘Shoes’ Moshoeshoe (lead actor of the Oscar Winning film ‘Tsotsi’, Presley Chweneyagae), are cheated out of a large reward by their corrupt superiors, Chili finds another way of getting the money he feels they deserve. Chili penetrates a cash-in-transit heist gang, and instead of busting them, convinces his partner to participate in a once off score.” The movie is actually a lot of fun.
This unusual offering will take place on Wednesday 30 April, 2014, at 20:00, before the holiday on 1 May 2014. The tickets are R110 per head, and a Jamesons welcome drink and popcorn are included in the price. Bring your own blankets because you will be grabbing a bean bag and making yourself at home in Kruger Street, between Main and Fox Streets. These outdoor screenings have already proved to be very popular.
Bear in mind that Maboneng has some fabulous little restaurants where you can have a wonderful dinner before the screening. The Chalkboard Cafe (pizzas) and Little Addis (Ethiopian food) are both worth a visit. For those who are not yet familiar with Maboneng, it is like the “old Hillbrow”, great vibe and terrible parking. Definitely worth visiting.
