Miners Shot Down is a hard-hitting political documentary which will be screened at Cinema Nouveau as part of an exciting line-up for the Cinema Nouveau Doccie Fest which launches from 23 May 2014. It is about Marikana and was made by Rehad Desai.

The movie won the Camera Justitia Award at the Movies that Matter Festival 2014 (March 2014 in The Hague) as well as The Václav Havel Jury Award at the international human rights documentary film festival, One World also in March 2014 in Prague.

The movie is largely edited footage which the public has been able to see, set out with chilling and precise impartiality.  The spin the police and mine bosses tried to put on this is refuted in such a way that makes this tale a hard one to hear.

I found this fascinating and I was glued to the screen throughout, despite knowing how the story actually unfolded.

Highly recommended.  Put this festival, and particularly this movie, in your diary now.
