Parktown Girls High School 90th birthday Alumni Luncheon

For the past decade or so I have been attending the annual alumni (“Old Girls”) lunch just after Potted Sports.  To my amazement I have enjoyed these very much, for a variety of reasons, not least of which it is an opportunity to learn what the school is currently doing.

This year is the 90th birthday of Parktown High School for Girls.  The luncheon had many more attendees than usual and it was held in the expanded (since my day) school hall.  The Potted Sports theme this year related to the 90s generation, the current generation of high schoolers were born in the 90s.

The oldest of the “old girls” present matriculated in 1939.  The class of 1963 (50 years) was very well attended.  I find it difficult to believe that in two years time my class will celebrate 40 years since we left school.

The school is currently fundraising for a new Science Centre in order to keep up with the various private schools.  Parktown Girls is currently recognised as one of the top ten schools in Science and Maths in the country.  Generous donations for this project are being solicited.

At the end of the luncheon the “old girls” were each given a helium filled balloon to release as a prayer for the school.

I wonder what all the prayers for Parktown Girls for the future were?

And there they go ...

And there they go …
